How to Track a Money Transfer to Nepal: Step by Step
Money on the way and want to know exactly where it is? Here's how tracking actually works, and what each status update really means.
Once you've sent money to Nepal, watching it move can feel like a black box. Here's how tracking actually works across different providers, and what each status you'll see actually means.
Where to find your tracking reference
Every legitimate transfer comes with a reference number — sometimes called a transaction ID, MTCN (for Western Union-style transfers), or confirmation number — generated the moment you complete payment. This appears in your confirmation email, in the app's transaction history, or on a printed receipt if you sent in person. Save it immediately; it's the single piece of information every subsequent tracking step and any support conversation depends on.
What the status updates actually mean
Processing / Pending — your payment has been received and the transfer is being prepared; this is normal and doesn't indicate a problem. In transit / Sent — the funds are moving toward the recipient's bank, wallet, or pickup location. Delivered / Completed — the money has arrived; for bank deposits this usually means it's already in the account, for cash pickup it means it's ready for collection. On hold / Under review — a routine compliance check, typically resolving within a day or two, sometimes faster if you promptly provide any requested documentation.

For bank deposits, most apps show a status directly in-app; your recipient can also check their own bank statement or app once funds are expected to have landed. For cash pickup, the tracking reference itself is what your recipient needs to bring to the pickup location — no separate tracking step required beyond having that number ready. For digital wallet delivery (eSewa, Khalti), the transfer typically shows in the sending app's history, and your recipient will see the deposit reflected directly in their wallet balance once it lands.
When to actually worry
Compare the status against the delivery estimate you were shown at the time of sending — most "delays" are transfers still within their normal window. If your transfer shows no status change well beyond that window, or shows an error or failed status, that's when to contact support directly with your reference number ready. Our guides for Wise and Botim support cover exactly what to do next for those specific providers.
What to have ready before contacting anyone
Your reference number, the exact amount and date sent, and the recipient's details as entered. Having all of this ready from your first message to support consistently leads to faster resolution than starting the conversation without it.
