01 / Emirates NBD for international transfers
Emirates NBD for international transfers
Emirates NBD is one of the UAE's largest banks by assets and supports international wire transfers including to Nepal. Transfers can be initiated via the mobile app, online banking, or in branch. The process is familiar to existing account holders and requires no additional registration.
02 / The real cost — fees and margin
The real cost — fees and margin
Emirates NBD charges a flat transfer fee of AED 15–30 plus an exchange rate margin of 1.5–2.5% below mid-market on AED→NPR. On AED 1,000, this means your recipient receives approximately NPR 1,000–1,600 less than with Wise. On AED 5,000, the difference narrows in percentage terms but can still exceed NPR 3,000. Banks are consistently the most expensive option on this corridor.
03 / When Emirates NBD makes sense
When Emirates NBD makes sense
Emirates NBD transfer is worth considering only if you are sending large amounts above AED 20,000 where the relationship with your bank, the familiarity of the process, and the high transfer limits outweigh the additional cost. For amounts under AED 5,000, the saving from switching to Wise or Remitly is material and the process is not significantly more complex.

The verdict
Emirates NBD is the most expensive option on the AED→NPR corridor and not the right choice for most senders. The convenience for existing customers is real but not worth the premium unless you are transferring very large amounts or have specific compliance requirements.
