Al Ansari vs the mid-market rate

Every provider builds a margin into the exchange rate they show you — that is how they cover foreign-exchange liquidity, branch costs and staff. Al Ansari’s margin on South Asian corridors is typically 0.4–0.8% at the branch, tighter than most banks and wider than app-based providers like Wise. The margin percentage on each card above is calculated at capture time against our live mid-market feed. A positive number means Al Ansari gives less than mid-market — which is normal for any consumer provider and roughly what you should expect.

Fees and how to send

Al Ansari operates three channels. Each has slightly different pricing and different friction.

  • Branch counter — cash in, transfer out. Standard branch fee typically AED 10–20 depending on corridor and amount. Best if you’re paying cash on payday.
  • Al Ansari app — link your UAE bank account, transfer any time. Rate is usually a shade tighter than the branch; fee may be waived above a threshold. Set-up takes 5 minutes with an Emirates ID.
  • Al Ansari online — desktop equivalent of the app. Same rate as app, useful if you’re at a laptop.

Branches, hours and the app

Al Ansari has one of the largest branch networks in the UAE — hundreds of locations across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the northern emirates. Most branches open 9 AM to 9 PM GST on weekdays and shorter hours on Fridays. Peak wait times are in the evenings on the 25th–28th of each month, when payday remittances stack up. The app avoids the queue entirely; if you’re comfortable transferring digitally, that is the faster path.

Is Al Ansari licensed?

Yes. Al Ansari Exchange is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) as a money-changing and remittance business. It has operated in the UAE since 1966 and is one of the largest exchange houses in the country. You can verify its status directly on the CBUAE register.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Al Ansari rate today for INR, PKR and NPR?
The rate cards above show the most recent captured Al Ansari branch rate for each currency, with the capture timestamp next to the number. Rates change through the trading day — always confirm the final rate at a branch or on the Al Ansari app before you send. If a card shows a stale timestamp it means we haven't captured a fresh rate yet today; the number is still directional but not live.
How often does Al Ansari change its exchange rate?
Al Ansari publishes a base rate at the start of each business day and adjusts it through the day as the interbank market moves. On calm days it might change two or three times; on volatile days more often. The branch rate can also differ slightly between locations. Our capture runs once a day and represents the published rate at that moment.
Is the Al Ansari branch rate the same as the app rate?
Not always. The Al Ansari app and their online transfer service sometimes offer a marginally tighter rate than the physical branch — usually 15–40 paise per dirham better for South Asian currencies. If you send frequently, the app pays off; if you're depositing cash into your account first, the branch is easier. Check both before you send.
Does Al Ansari charge a fee on top of the exchange rate?
Yes. For most corridors Al Ansari adds a small branch fee (typically AED 10–20) on top of the rate margin they already build in. The exact fee depends on the destination country, transfer size and receiving channel (cash pickup versus bank deposit). The comparison table above includes fee data where we have it.
How do you capture these Al Ansari rates?
We record the published Al Ansari branch rate once every business day for INR, PKR, NPR, PHP and LKR. Each capture is stored with a timestamp and the source channel (branch or app). We compute the margin against the live mid-market rate at the moment of capture. Full method: /methodology/.
