Lulu vs the mid-market rate

The margin percentage on each Lulu card is the gap between the Lulu branch rate at capture time and the live interbank mid-market rate. On most South Asian corridors Lulu’s spread runs 0.3–0.7% at the branch and often 0.1–0.2% tighter in the LuLu Money app. Positive margin means Lulu is quoting a rate below mid-market — the standard behaviour for any consumer money-changer. Zero margin would mean Lulu isn’t making anything on the FX side, which nobody does.

Fees, channels, and how Lulu prices

Lulu offers three paths, priced independently:

• Lulu Exchange branch — the counter at any LuLu Money location, often inside a LuLu Hypermarket. Standard branch fee AED 15–25 depending on corridor. Cash acceptance is the main reason to use it.
• LuLu Money app — Lulu’s digital transfer product. Rate typically 15–30 paise per dirham tighter than the branch for South Asia; smaller fee, sometimes waived for first-time senders or above a promo threshold.
• LuLu Money web — same rate and fee model as the app, useful from a laptop.

Delivery to Pakistan settles into Raast within seconds for enabled banks; India goes via IMPS or NEFT depending on the recipient bank; Nepal supports both bank deposit and eSewa payout.

Branches, hours and the app

The advantage of Lulu’s branch footprint is co-location. Many Lulu Exchange counters sit inside a LuLu Hypermarket, so groceries and a remittance can happen in the same trip. Typical branch hours run 9 AM to 10 PM GST. On payday weekends the counters inside hypermarkets tend to move faster than standalone remittance branches simply because there are more of them per store. The app avoids queues entirely and is worth the five-minute setup if you send monthly.
